DIY Fabric Heart Wreath
When I was in fourth grade we moved from New Jersey to Maryland. A new room meant I had the chance to redecorate and make my mark as a ten year old. At the time I was really into sunflowers so my room got a blue and yellow makeover: blue and white striped curtains with sunflowers, sunflower-print bedlinen, faux stems in a vase, and a sunflower print in an oak frame. I even had a denim sunflower "Blossom" hat. It was truly the room of a 90s girl.
My creative mom also made the sunflower fabric wreath pictured below. I had outgrown my sunflower phase by the next move five years later. Happily our new guest room had a yellow and blue theme and my mom was able to use the old heart wreath. It surfaced again after my parents' retirement move. I couldn't bear to get rid of this 20 year old piece of my history. So, I updated it for Valentine's Day.
You will need
- a frame, metal or wood
- half a yard of fabric
- scissors or rotary cutter
- piece of twine
I started by removing all of the old fabric from the frame. It was an easy but time-consuming task. Here's where you come in:
1. Cut your fabric into 1" x 6" strips.
2. Fold the strips in half and place the loop underneath the frame. Thread the tail ends through the loop and pull tight.
3. Continue this process around the frame until it's full. Adjust the pieces of fabric until they're even and you're happy with the look.
4. Tie a small piece of twine or string at the top so you can you can hang it.
This was a quick project that brightens up any door! I think I may try to make a rabbit or egg for Easter. Have you ever updated a craft from your childhood?
